Hyacinth Bean Vine In Its Glory
Hyacinth Bean Vine is one of those plants I grow that because it adds such rich color and texture to floral designs . Late autumn is its glory season as the flowers and the pods take on sharp electric plum and violet colors. This gorgeous flower adds a fun eclectic appeal to the zinnia bouquet.

Beautiful Weather, Beautiful Wedding
Jennifer and Brian were married this past weekend, and the weather was perfect for their wedding. I met with Jennifer and her event planner, Erin McLean, in May. Jennifer is pure Southern in every good way, and it was fun to talk about butter mint recipes and such, being a southern woman myself, (my husband's aunt makes some of the Best!). It was also great to talk about the rich autumn color palette for her wedding flowers as summer was already bearing down on us.
I had hoped to have some pictures of the bride and her bridesmaids, but mine did not turn out too well. To get a glimpse of how beautiful Jennifer and Brian's wedding was, check out Jason's blog at Jason Dail Photography. He is truly gifted at what he does.
And drop by Erin McLean Events too- I want to tell more about her later.

Pictures from the State Fair
Here are some pictures from the State Fair- Love those Blue Ribbons. The top photos are of some corsage demonstration classes at the Flower Show. These were a lot of fun as they were actually hands-on. The first photo is of the participants wearing their finished work, (I'm sitting with them on the back row). The second photo is of Jan McLean (Falls Lake Florist) and me showing how to put corsages together.

STATE FAIR!!!
I can't believe that it is already mid October, and in case you didn't know- that means State Fair time. This is the second year that I have competed as a professional florist in the WCFA, and I am so excited to hear that my first two entries have won Blue Ribbons. The categories were based on songs. For the bridal bouquet it was "With This Ring" and the surprise category was "I Hear it's Your Birthday". I had a lot of fun coming up with the designs for these songs. I hope I can get by the Fair and get some pictures with the Blue Ribbons!
PS
For the astute observer the first bouquet is not the actual entry- the colors are a bit softer than the bouquet I actually entered.

The Winner of the Rose Bouquet is....
The winner of the Rose Bouquet from the Southern Bridal Show is Paula P., who is getting married April 30, 2011. Her colors will include lavender, so I designed this bouquet with Cool Water roses, a soft lavender rose and creamy Majolica spray roses. I want to offer my long overdue congratulations to Paula!
